The big KU5200 has a LOT of test miles on it.  We can truly say that it’s the only large KU pack that handles any size load with comfort, and confidence.  It is ideally suited for deep field work, any long venture where self-containment is critical, especially with the added capacity of the abundant ultralight pockets, PODS and so forth available to enhance it’s capacity even further.  It has been used extensively with loads exceeding 150 lbs. in relative comfort (as comfortable as 150 pounds can be).  It is more comfortable, in fact, than ANY other pack, of any weight (excepting our own standard weight packs—which it equals).  Our Testers agree.  What more can be said?  More load, more comfort, and less pack weight than ever before.

  

 

Loads like this are accomplished thanks to our WrapTech Plus and Precision Plus Suspension Systems. Meticulous engineering provides this pack excellent shoulder lift - spreading the load to your back, hips and lumbar region for a stable, comfortable carry.

The Dual Stay Program
Our proprietary dual stay program means you can use two different stay lengths with the same pack.  The stays are interchangable at home, or in the field.  A second set for your son...or a second set for expedition-weight loads?  Etc.  You decide, the option is there.

Your KU pack will come with Ultralight Composite Stays unless you opt for aluminum stays.
Composite stays maximize weight savings and are ideal for a normally contoured back.
Aluminum stays provide a cost savings of $40.00 but add weight, and are recommended for folks with will "flat back.

KU5200 Precision Lift Plus System
Two stay lengths available: 24" and 26" 

24 inch stays
The KU5200 will easily carry 100+ pound loads. Of course you don't have to carry that much - the pack will feel wonderful with typical full boat backpack loads which will not be nearly that much. Still, that can be 60 pounds if the trip is long - select the 24 inch stays if you are around 6 ft. tall or less.

  

26 inch stays
This length will accommodate men well beyond 6'6". It is also the length you'll want if you anticipate carrying seriously heavy loads and are somewhat shorter than 6'6", and if you are close to that and have a long torso. As always, if in doubt, select the longer stay.

When in doubt with borderline cases, specify the longer stays.

 

These packs WILL carry heavy loads comfortably.  They WILL stand up to normal (not just "careful") use.  They WILL last a very long time.  They are "tough enough" to get the job done well.  You don't have to baby them.  But they are not "bullet proof" in the way our Cordura packs are--they can't be and be this lightweight.  Small abrasions and tears do not compromise the pack's integrity.  Such blemishes can easily be left alone or, if you prefer, covered with a dab of silicone gel from the hardware store.  We will repair real damage at reasonable rates IF you manage to damage your KU pack.  Don't expect to though.  Of course any problem with workmanship is fully our responsibility.

Problems associated with normal wear or abuse will mean a reasonable repair or replacement charge. Any returned goods MUST be clean, and free of grit, blood, etc., or you will be charged an appropriate cleaning fee. 

All Kifaru gear comes with a  guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. Should they ever fail to provide satisfaction because of defects in materials or workmanship, we will repair or replace at no cost to you.

 

 

For proper fit, we ask that you send us your height, waist size and inseam length from your pant's size. This allows us to determine shoulder strap setup and proper sized waistbelt.

The Basics: Kifaru packs are designed to put all or most of the weight on your hips, not your shoulders. DO NOT tighten the shoulder straps.
Remember: very tight waistbelt, nearly "loose" shoulder straps.
