Spike Camp vs. Bear...
"Dear Patrick,
Just wanted to say thanks for the Spike Camp.  It is the 'State of the Art' in day packs.  Putting it on is just like my favorite coat or gloves--a real pleasure.  It lives up to the Kifaru name as I had a grizzly chew on it (I was still attached) and we both survived with little damage.  Wish I had a photo--but didn't think of it at the time."
Best wishes,
Gale Sunderland,  Cody Wyoming(Editors note: Of course we HAD to phone Gale about this one.  Seems he and his dog were elk hunting about 40 miles southwest of Cody when the dog alerted Gale to "something coming".  Good thing too, for when he turned a sow and cub were bearing down on him and only about 30 yards away.  A full-tilt charge.  Gale had time to fire in front of the bruin (he said she was a fine sow with cub and he was just not going to shoot her.  WOW!), and then dive downslope.  Both sow and cub sailed past him and the sow circled back whereupon she clawed his face, he ducked, and she bit his pack, and then...it was over.  She and the cub were gone.  Just like that.  He didn't even require stitches and finished his wilderness hunt.  Ended pretty well.  Pack was fine too except for tooth-dented cartridges stored inside.  Hats off to Gale for what we consider a pretty selfless act in not punching the sow in the ten ring.  He said one never  knows how one will react to these sorts of things 'til it really happens.  The area has had quite a few bear/hunter incidents.)

Last year, I hauled a bone-in hind quarter from a large cow, with the pack full of my normal stuff. Altogether, it was 110 lbs. Both the Spike Camp and I survived. It places a premium on how to lash the load down, and you need to compress the pack down tight or the load shifts, But it works, and works well.

"I just used my SpikeCamp for the first time on a feral hog hunt in Missouri. It is the most comfortable pack I've ever carried. The CargoChair hauled large amounts of port up several hills making me realize that I need to be in better shape to use the pack to its fullest potential. Also, the GunBearer system works like a dream. I'm going to use the ordered Universal GunBearer on my small shoulder harnessed fanny pack to carry a rifle every time I walk in our wooded property. My SpikeCamp will be used a lot this summer while I get in shape for my fall elk trip into western Montana. GREAT PRODUCTS!!

“... I had the opportunity to use the Kifaru System on a boar hunt ... and this has to be by far the best backpack on the market, period. It is made by a hunter for hunters.
The GunBearer is very comfortable, with hands free. Your gun is ready in one quick motion for use and is much faster than removing your rifle with a  sling.
The Cargo and Camp Chair. I did not get a boar to try out my freight shelf, but I did carry a 50 lb. block of salt into the woods for deer. The freight shelf made carrying the block very easy. The weight did not pull down on my shoulders like other backpacks. The seat really makes sitting on wet ground a comfort. This is a must when spending a full day afield. I don’t think there is one inch of this pack that does not have a use. It is not possible to make a better product.”

“I like this pack better than any of my daypacks built by top manufacturers in the backpacking industry. The hip belt and shoulder straps work admirably without being bukly and overbuilt. This isn't a pack to be used in the autumn hunting seasons and then shelved. The SpikeCamp is made for years of year-round use.”.

Patrick:
I have been hunting for over 30 years in Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and Arizona for deer, javelina and elk.  Some of this terrain is in the Sonoran desert and some is in the FlatTop Mountains of Colorado at 10,000 feet.  Your pack makes carrying  sufficient supplies and a rifle or shotgun a breeze.  It fits great, is of very high quality as respects the materials and design. One of the neatest features is the built in sling to carry a weapon and leave your hands free to negotitiate the terrain.  Another feature I like is the reversible panels of blaze orange and camo for archery seasons as well as rifle/ shotgun seasons. Two packs for the price of one..... Another great feature is the built in compartment for a water bladder.  I use a 70 ounce Platypus type and it will last me for the whole day.  It is better than a canteen or Bota bottle because it does not make any noise, like canteens do when they are half empty.  Last year I hunted in SE Arizona for three days for Coues deer and it rained the whole time. (Yes, it does rain in Arizona.)
Your pack did not leak and is very comfortable even when worn ten hours a day.  I will buy another one if I ever wear this one out.  Thanks for building a great pack, it is worth every dollar I paid and more.

A spike camp is your home away from home- an efficient, secondary hunting camp away from the main lodge or camp site or away from the the crowd and closer to the game you are seeking. The SpikeCamp lets you get away from it all with just what you need for your comfort and safety.
