I have just recieved my 300 WSM in a Winchester model 70 featherweight classic. I've broken the barrel in with 80 rounds of factory ammo (cleaning the barrel each round for the 1st 20 and then every 4 rounds) and am ready to start handloading some hunting rounds for it. I'm free floating and pillar bedding it and installing a jewell trigger. I want one round that I can dial the gun and myself in to rather than carry a different load for everything I hunt. I'm in western Montana and hunt antelope, deer and elk. I want to try to load a 165 grain round that will take care of all three. I've considered Combined tech failsafes, ballistic tips from Nosler and combined tech, Nosler pars and HP BTs, Sierra HP BTs and SPT BTs, Speer GS, BT SPTZ, BT HP Molys. Any recomendation for an accurate 165 grain that will have decent penetration as well? Comments I just got my 300 WSM in the Winchester model 70 featherweight. It chambers the 150 ballistic tips and 180 failsafes very smoothly without any jamming. This is one well built rifle, very smooth with tight tollerances for a production gun, I couldn't be happier with it. Comments OK - guess I can be first. I'd like to get my daughter into shooting, and am unsure of what firearm to start her out with. She's 12, and weighs about 75 pounds - can't be anything too heavy or with too much kickback. Any suggestions helpful! Thanks in advance, Jerry M.
