Some guns just like certain bullets/loads. My old 30-06 didn't like any 165 gr bullet I fed it, but did great with 180's. I am something of a minimalist. Partitions always work, and if they shoot good, I'd stop there. I've been shooting the same load in my 270 since 1983 for everything, with one exception. So far, it's been flawless and every bullet recovered (only a few) looks just like the advertisements. Others may disagree. I don't think you're wasting your time. You're shooting, and getting practice, at the very least. Finding a new load after you've already got a good one is a bonus.
