Anybody out there with any feedback on 12X binocs? I currently carry a very good 8X and a 25X spotter with tripod. I'd like to get rid of the spotter for most trips for three reasons.
One, it's in the pack and therefore hard to get at quickly. Two, 25X is overpowered and hard to use in the terrain and cover that I'm in most of the time. Three, weight and bulk. I could save a couple of lbs. by leaving it behind.
There are bunches of 12X50s that are big and heavy, but also some 12X40 that are fairly light @ 25oz. or so. Also a batch of 12X25,28,30 that I'd be suspicious of as to optical quality (but maybe not??).
Any input out there is helpful as far as ability to hold steady, or the effect of mirage. Any brand and model suggestions?
