Gatorade, Poweraid and similar mass market sports drinks are better than nothing for electrolyte replacement, but are mostly sugar water. The calories are good to have as well however.
Some of the sports drinks like Cytomax, the Endurox products and Suceed products are better formulated for real endurance events, and I would rate packing an elk out as a major endurance undertaking.
The electrolyte caps, like Suceed and E Caps are the best, but must be taken with plenty of water to avoid stomach upset. In most hunting situations, a sports drink is fine doe to more mild temperatures. In desert areas, or early fall the temperatures might warrant the use of the caps. Ed
